ARCHITECTURAL WATERCOLORS
My interest in design began with my passion for classical architecture. In particular European and English neoclassical architecture of the 17th and 18th centuries.
The process begins with extensive research of the structure that I have chosen to paint. When possible I take detailed measurements so that I can reproduce it as accurately as possible. Often I can only refer to historical drawings, and photographs especially if a structure no longer exists or is inaccessible.
My under drawings are prepared on parchment tracing paper which allows me to make any necessary revisions to the drawing without damaging the watercolor paper. The under drawing is then transferred to the watercolor paper by redrawing over the parchment trace.
I typically use Arches 300lb hot or cold press paper for my finished paintings. I use many successive layers and glazes of watercolor to achieve the level of depth needed to bring the elevation of the structure to life.
All paintings are framed in period style hand carved 22k water gilded moldings, with acid free archival custom paper wrapped mats.

I also welcome the opportunity for commissions. My medium of choice is watercolor but I also work in sepia, India ink, gouache, as well as colored markers and pencils. Typically I produce renderings in elevation, plan and perspective.
Subjects can include architectural depictions in elevation and perspective, garden pavilions, and decorative objects.
